This summer we reported that the hot (commercially speaking) upcoming director Carl Rinsch was attached to direct a remake of Logan’s Run with a script by Alex Garland (Sunshine, Never Let Me Go, 28 Days Later). With sad news, THR reports that is no longer the case and passed just as Bryan Singer, Robert Schwenke, James McTeigue, and Joseph Kosinski had done before. The commercial director was also attached to direct the Alien prequel before Ridley Scott decided he wanted to do it himself.
The Logan’s Run remake was to be an update of the 1976 film starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter and Farrah Fawcett. It was based on a 1967 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson about “a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a “runner” and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run.”
Instead, Universal has snagged him for 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves. The film already has a November 21, 2012 release and is “based on the true story of 47 Ronin, samurai swordsmen who avenged the death of their master in 18th century Japan.”
With an Alex Garland script completed, I’m sure a new director will pop up soon for Logan’s Run. After all, if it is a remake it will get made by Hollywood.
Who would you like to see direct a Logan’s Run remake? Does it need an update?
