As expected, things are moving right along on Paul Thomas Anderson‘s adaptation of Inherent Vice, following last week’s wonderful news that financing was in place from Warner Bros. for a shoot this month. While there was rumors that Charlize Theron was circling a role, she opted out and The Master star Joaquin Phoenix was our only member of the ensemble, but now we’ve got a few additions.
According to The Wrap, Benicio Del Toro is currently in talks to join the story based on Thomas Pynchon‘s novel, which follows Phoenix as Larry “Doc” Sportello, a pot-smoking detective on a kidnapping case in 1970’s Los Angeles. As for Del Toro, his role is a minor supporting one of an attorney who considers it his duty to assist Phoenix.
We’ve also got word from our friends over at Cigarettes & Red Vines that Anderson has re-teamed with character actor Kevin J. O’Connor after turns in both The Master and There Will Be Blood (seen below with Daniel Day-Lewis). While we don’t know his role yet, expect more answers and casting as production kicks off this month, with the help of cinematographer Robert Elswit.

Are you looking forward to seeing Del Toro work with PTA?
