Casting news for Matthew Vaughn‘s X-Men: First Class is coming thick and fast. Hot on the heels of the news that Michael Fassbender has officially signed on to play Magneto and rumors that Alice Eve is in negotiations to play Emma Frost, Latino Review are reporting that Caleb Landry Jones (No Country For Old Men, The Last Exorcism) is the top contender for the role of Sean Cassidy/Banshee.

As the name suggests, Banshee is an Irish mutant whose superhuman throat, lungs and vocal chords allow him to emit a ‘sonic scream’ to subdue foes and which can also cause physical vibrations. Think of him as the inspiration for the ‘Bleeders’ in Paul McGuigan‘s 2009 superhero film Push. Banshee’s time as an X-Man was relatively short-lived, though he was also featured as a mentor in the spin-off comic book series Generation X, alongside Emma Frost.

Although shown as older than his fellow X-Men in the comic books, the potential casting of Jones who, at 20-years-old and the youngest of the cast so far, would suggest the character may be shown as one of the first students at the mutant school formed by Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Fassbender).

Are you a fan of the Banshee character? Are you happy he will be in X-Men: First Class?
