Ami Canaan Mann‘s Texas Killing Fields, which is currently slated as a competition title at the upcoming Venice Film Festival, has finally received an official release date from its distributor, Anchor Bay: October 7th. Of course, being the daughter of Michael Mann, one of the crime genre’s true magnates, it’s fair to assume that Ami has had her fair share of education in this arena of filmmaking — not to mention the fact that Michael, serving as a producer on the film, likely provided a watchful eye during the production process. An international trailer for the film was released not too long ago, though I didn’t bother giving it a look. The tense-sounding storyline, along with the noteworthy cast — which includes Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chloe Moretz, Stephen Graham, Jessica Chastain, and Annabeth Gish — are more than enough to peak my interest in the film.
I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out on how it’s received at Venice. The project’s journey to distribution has been a struggle, which gives the impression that it could be a dud, but the talent involved is, I think, too notable to dismiss at first glance. To refresh your memory, take a look at the film’s synopsis below.
Synopsis:
This tense and haunting thriller follows a local homicide detective (Sam Worthington) in a small Texas town and his partner, a transplanted cop from New York City (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), as they track a sadistic serial killer dumping his victims’ mutilated bodies in a nearby marsh locals call “The Killing Fields”.
The killer changes the game and begins hunting the detectives, teasing them with possible clues at the crime scenes while always remaining one step ahead. When a familiar local girl, Anne (Chloe Grace Moretz), goes missing, the detectives find themselves in a race against time to find the killer and save her life.
How do you think the film will turn out? Do you have any anticipation for it?
