After he did his Alan Arkin thing in Argo, Hollywood veteran Alan Arkin is looking to continue his streak with a few other A-listers for an upcoming drama. We’ve already got Raging Bull star Robert De Niro and Rocky lead Slyvester Stallone set to square off for the boxing project Grudge Match, but now Variety reports Arkin has joined the ensemble.
He’ll be also joining Kim Basinger in the film set to be directed by Get Smart‘s Peter Segal and scripted by Tim Kelleher and Doug Ellin (Entourage). While Arkin plays “Lightning” Louis Epstein, trainer to Stallone’s character, Variety also got a few more details on the synopsis which pits Jake LaMotta against Rocky Balboa and you can see them below.
Stallone plays Henry ‘Razor’ Sharp, who retired after winning his last fight against Billy ‘The Kid’ McGuigan (De Niro), a passionate pugilist who never recovered after losing his belt to Razor and being denied a rematch. Now an out-of-shape restaurant owner, The Kid longs to be back in the spotlight and jumps at the chance to take another shot at Razor.
Production kicks off in 2013 for a release likely later in the year.
Are you looking forward to seeing Arkin team with De Niro and Stallone?
