After various rumors surfing through the web these past few days, THR reports that longtime director Abel Ferrara is not developing a film based on the Dominique Strauss-Khan affairs. Gerard Depardieu and Isabelle Adjani were rumored to star, but Wild Bunch executive Vincent Maraval is denying such claims.

Maraval told Gallic media that there “is no project of this kind in production” and that “Ferarra is currently writing a script about politics, the weakness of today’s politician, who is at the same time all-powerful and lost, miserable in his personal life.” However, on a more non-fiction note, he did add that “there will be, without a doubt, a little bit of Clinton, a little bit of Berlusconi and a little bit of DSK in the script.”

According to Maraval, the rumors began circulating on the set of Ferrara‘s last film, 4:44 Last Day on Earth, when he “jokingly told Ferrara that the scandal would be a good subject for his next movie.” Maraval threw Depardieu‘s name into the mix after poking fun at his airplane scandal earlier this year, jokingly commenting that he could play a good Strauss-Khan because of it. Adjani did meet with Ferrara earlier this year, where the two expressed interest in working together, but nothing has been set.

The current script, according to Maraval is “just as much about American politics as French politics.” However, Wild Bunch isn’t even sure they’ll sign on for such a high profile, addiction-based film. With election season in full swing, I’m not sure any company will want to be attached to a project that could potentially bash politicians in a manner Ferrara would be known for. The future for this project looks grim as of now, but that could always change with time.

What do you think about Ferrara’s latest project?
