According to Firstshowing.net political screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (Charlie Wilson’s War, A Few Good Men, The West Wing) is adapting the Jonathan Mahler novel The Challenge. Warner Bros has hired him to adapt the screenplay for George Clooney to potentially direct and star in. The book is a non-fiction story about the lengthy campaign waged by US Navy lawyer Charles Swift and Georgetown law professor Neal Katyal to ensure a fair trial for Salim Hamdan, the bodyguard and driver of Osama bin Laden. You can find it on Amazon.

George Clooney has proved his directing ability with Good Night, Good Luck, although I haven’t seen Confessions of a Dangerous Mind or Leatherheads. If one is making a political drama I don’t know if you could get a better writer than Sorkin so I’m definitely looking forward to this.

What do you think of The Challenge?
