Robert De Niro can still pick a winner every once in a while – take his recent  role in American Hustle, for instance – but the man likes to keep busy, which means starring in a few forgettable projects. Years after it was first announced one such film will finally see release. A trailer for The Bag Man (formerly known as Hotel) hit the web, and all signs point to a by-the-book thriller with a few curious characters.

The feature debut from writer-director David Grovic stars De Niro as a gangster who hires a schlub (played by John Cusack) to steal a cache of money and hold it at a remote motel. The night takes a strange turn, however, when a weapons-savvy stripper (Rebecca Da Costa) becomes involved. Swept up in the action is little person actor Martin Klebba (who, from the look of it, plays a hot-headed thug), and the always weird Crispin Glover, both of whom offer enough spark to make this outing look interesting. See the trailer, synopsis and poster below:

Synopsis:

THE BAG MAN is a taut crime thriller that follows JACK (John Cusack), a tough guy with chronic bad luck but human touches, and legendary crime boss DRAGNA (Robert De Niro). DRAGNA has summoned JACK and a host of shady characters to a remote bayou motel for unknown reasons, and over the course of a long and violently eventful night, Jack’s path crosses with the stunningly beautiful RIVKA (Rebecca Da Costa). All of their fates intertwine, and when Dragna arrives on the scene there are sudden and extreme consequences for everyone involved.

The Bag Man opens in limited release on Feb. 28th.
