The world of director Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful has unfolded in a number of promotional materials over the past few months, but some new footage gives fans just a little more to anticipate.
In the full-length trailer, the prequel to The Wizard of Oz revealed its loyalty to the 1939 masterpiece by transporting James Franco’s lead character from the crisp black-and-white of dusty Kansas to a colorful CGI fantasy realm. As expected, it only allowed glimpses at the film’s many visual delights, but a new trailer for Disney’s big budget project takes viewers on an extended ride over a re-imagined vision of L. Frank Baum‘s literary creation. For instance, it’s comforting to see Oz play with familiar traits of the good witch Theodora (Michelle Williams), who was introduced via bubble in the original film; more than anything, it should be interesting how that adds to the iconic story established in Wizard.

Oz the Great and Powerful also stars Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Joey King, Zach Braff, and Raimi regular Bruce Campbell. The film hits theaters on March 8th.
