Whether you like the films or not, the V/H/S franchise is one of the more intriguing projects of the VOD era. Presumably made on the cheap, the first made a hair over $100,000 at the box-office, while its predecessor barely crossed the $20,000 mark theatrically. It’s clear that Magnolia knows the true power lies on the VOD circuit here (despite a disappointing lack of transparency regarding their earnings), as they’ve picked up the latest in the series, V/H/S: Viral, for a fall release.
After the first details dropped last week, we now know that it tells “the story of a deranged illusionist who obtains a magical object of great power, a homemade machine that opens a door to a parallel world, teenage skaters that unwillingly become targets of a Mexican death cult ritual, and a sinister, shadowy organization that is tracking a serial killer.
The centerpiece connecting the stories will be fame-obsessed teens who unwittingly become stars of the next internet sensation. Once again produced by The Collective and Bloody Disgusting, direction comes from Todd Lincoln (The Apparition), Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes), Marcel Sarmiento (Deadgirl), Gregg Bishop (Dance of the Dead), and Resolution duo Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead. Today the first trailer, which includes a fair share of fun scares while reminding you what came before, and poster have dropped. Check them both out below.
V/H/S: Viral will be released this fall.
