It was a packed weekend at the box office this weekend, but Rise of the Planet of the Apes came out on top its second outing in a row, crossing the $100 million mark and making $27.5 million the last three days. The biggest new wide release of the weekend was The Help, which slightly over-performed, taking in $25.2 million for a $35.39 million total since Wednesday.
Final Destination 5 proved to be the best-reviewed of the series, but it grabbed just an average $18.4 million its opening weekend. This is a step down from the $27.4m opening of its 2009 predecessor. The other wide release, 30 Minutes or Less, also underperformed at $13m. It was especially disappointing considering the talent involved and quite a bit less than Ruben Fleischer‘s debut Zombieland, which grabbed $24.7m its opening weekend.
It seems like TV viewership doesn’t translate to ticket buying as most disappointing was Fox’s Glee: 3D Concert Movie. The film only grossed $5.7 million, not enough to crack the top 10, which you can see below.
