After sweeping Sundance, stopping by Cannes, Toronto and, shortly, NYFF, I had finally had the chance to check out Damien Chazelle‘s Whiplash. While a full review is forthcoming, it’s an intense, deeply engaging drama bordering on psychological thriller that is certainly deserving of the acclaim its received thus far. A pair of trailers have effectively sold the story of Miles Teller as a jazz drummer who practices under the guidance of J.K. Simmons, but now we can get a deeper look at their process.
While at TIFF, the creative trio gathered for a 24-minute conversation to discuss how the production came together and the quick road to Sundance, their influences, the experience of acting during intense scenes, storyboarding the entire film, physical boundaries, and much more. Check it out below, along with a fantastic new poster hailing from Brazil.
Whiplash opens on October 10th.
