Sony Pictures is getting into the Seth Rogen business. The Seth Rogen directing business to be exact. The studio is in talks to finance and distribute Rogen’s end-of-the-world comedy The Apocalypse, which Rogen co-wrote the script with Evan Goldberg.
The feature is based on the duo’s short Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse, with Rogen and Jay Baruchel playing themselves, in their apartment panicking about the…apocalypse. A few months ago, they officially dropped the Jay and Seth vs. from the title.
This time around, Rogen and Baruchel will be joined by James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson. As Rogen puts it, “I literally play Seth Rogen in the movie and Jay Baruchel literally plays himself in the movie and others — Jonah Hill, James Franco — they’re literally playing themselves in the movie.” They’ll be stuck in Franco’s apartment complaining about…the apocalypse.
THR reports that the film is budgeted around $30 million to $40 million. There hasn’t been a release date set yet. The producers are hoping to begin production this spring.
What do you think a Seth Rogen joint will look like?
