Following his English-language debut Stoker, South Korean director Park Chan-wook recently confirmed his plans to return to his native country, helming an adaptation of Fingersmith. Meanwhile, in between short films, he continues to pile up the future potential feature-length projects. Today, Variety brings news of another which would bring him back to English-language territory.
The Oldboy director has signed on for the sci-fi thriller Second Born, which comes from David Jagernauth‘s script, one “set in a futuristic world where consciousness is stored on computer chips and bodies are bought and sold on the black-market. A murdered cop is reborn in a stranger’s body in order to bring down a body-snatching cult that has taken over the government.”
The dark noir aspects sound like a perfect fit for the helmer, but there’s no word yet when producers Rumble Films plan to begin production. Upon a search, one can see even more details on the script with coverage here, which compares it to Minority Report and Blade Runner. As we await the next films from Park Chan-wook, check out a 35-minute talk from the director around the release of Stoker below.
