After years of physical comparisons between the two, Kevin Kline will finally get to portray the legendary Hollywood icon Errol Flynn in a new drama — but no swashbuckling or other action involved. Variety has the scoop on the project, which sees Kline under the guidance of directors Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland, who also wrote the film.
After last writing and directing the drama Quinceanera back in 2006, the duo have set their new project as The Last of Robin Hood. The film would follow Kline as Flynn, tracking his final days before passing away after a heart attack at the relatively young age of 50. Things get more complicated when the story opens up about “his relationship with 17 year-old Beverly Aadland, an actress who was allegedly seduced by Flynn when she was only 15 years old.”
While Aadland’s part has yet to be cast, Susan Sarandon is circling the role of her mother Florence, who despite dreams of being a star, “ended up living vicariously through her daughter.” While not all the factual details are clear, Beverly did indeed confirm this sexual relationship back in the 1980s. Looking at Flynn’s entire, stunning career, this isn’t exactly the story I’d want to hear most, but I can’t think of a better actor playing his part.
Production kicks off in January, with producing efforts by Christine Vachon’s Killer Films.
