After starring in SXSW’s opener Cabin in the Woods and playing Dr. Jackson Avery on Grey’s Anatomy for the past few years, it was only a matter of time before Jesse Williams made his way up through Hollywood. Now, Variety is reporting that he has been cast to lead Snake and Mongoose, alongside Richard Blake.
Mongoose tells the true story of drag racing legends Don “the Snake” Prudhomme (Williams) and Tom “Mongoose” McEwen (Blake) and their longtime friendship and rivalry. Wayne Holloway is set to direct, with a script by Alan Paradise. This marks Holloway‘s feature length debut — he previously directed two shorts titled God’s Wounds and We’re Staying Home.
Stephen Nemeth will produce the drama alongside Robin Broidy through Nemeth‘s Rhino Films and Broidy‘s Entertainment Universe. The real Prudhomme and McEwen will be billed as executive producers for the project, with Paradise. The makers have also joined with the National Hot Rod Association, the official body of U.S. drag racing, who will help with marketing for the project.
William‘s co-star for Cabin in the Woods, Chris Hemsworth, is also diving into the drag-racing genre, as he is starring in the Ron Howard directed Rush, where he will play legendary drag-racer James Hunt. Michael Mann is also developing a picture revolving around the 1966 Le Mans race titled, Go Like Hell.
