Bradley Cooper has left Relativity’s remake of The Crow, booked through the year and a long way into next year with David O’Russell‘s The Silver Linings Playbook this fall and Alex Proyas‘s Paradise Lost, in which he will play the fallen angel Lucifer, early next year.

Relativity was hoping to shoot The Crow the same time Proyas and Legendary plan to shoot Paradise Lost. It’s hard to believe it was that difficult a decision for Cooper, choosing between starring as a resurrected rock star out for vengeance in a remake or as the most interesting character in the first high-profile film adaptation of one of the greatest pieces of literature in the history of the world. Not to mention the latter will be directed by Mr. Proyas, the very man who made The Crow worth remaking in 1993.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, the upcoming Intruders) is still set to direct, and the names of two other stars has risen to replace Cooper [THR]. One, Mark Wahlberg, has been rumored since the project was first announced at Relativity. The other, Channing Tatum, continues to get the star treatment thanks to the success of tear-jerkers like Dear John and tentpoles like G.I. Joe and to spite things like The Eagle, which everyone seems to forgot came out in the first place. There’s a vocal amount of distaste for the young actor’s ability, but clearly a general feeling in Hollywood that the actor is up to the task of bankable leading man.

As for Wahlberg, is he not a bit too old at this point? Not to mention blowing his revenge quota with the terrible Max Payne.

What do you think? Who would be the best risen rock star?
