Apparently nobody went to the movies this weekend, as the top grosser, True Grit brought in only $15 million in its 3rd week. Finally, after 2 weeks on the heels of Little Fockers, it managed to overcome the $13.8 million that the franchise piece saw.
Nicolas Cage flick Season of the Witch stumbled wildly out of the gates, earning just $10.7 million, coming in third behind that pair of 3rd-weekend films.
Country Strong expanded this weekend and showed up in 6th place, earning $7.3 million. Further, The King’s Speech crept up to 8th, adding $6.8 total to its $33.3 million total.
Next weekend we should see some higher earnings as heavily marketed The Green Hornet opens against comedy The Dilemma, with Black Swan finishing its expansion. I foresee The Green Hornet to be the big winner, cashing in on the 3D crowd.
