True Grit showed extraordinary staying power, only falling 1% in its second weekend, bringing in $24.5 million. Now the Coen Brothers’ highest-grossing film, at this pace Grit is set to gross well over $100 million. And while all that’s well and good, it wasn’t enough to usurp the top spot, as Little Fockers took in $26.3 million to hang on to its first place spot for the second weekend in a row.
Tron Legacy maintained the three spot, earning $18.3 million in its third weekend, totaling $130.8 million. Also in its third weekend Yogi Bear jumped a spot to number four, earning $13 million.
Oscar favorite The King’s Speech peeked its head in the top 10, earning $7.6 million, totaling just under $23 million.
Blue Valentine opened in 4 theaters, totaling $278,000. It will see a slow expansion over the next few weeks, but look for it to earn its keep.
Coming up next weekend, Season of the Witch takes on the expansion of Country Strong. Also expanding is the much maligned I Love You Philip Morris. Look for the Nicolas Cage action flick to rule the weekend.
