In terms of aliens invading Earth in the year’s tentpoles, perhaps one of the most inspired choices comes with Pixels. Sony’s blockbuster follows a group of otherworldly forces who misinterpret video feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war and they attack the Earth in the form of the video games. The first trailer has now arrived ahead of a July release.
Starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, Ashley Benson and Brian Cox, it’ll be interesting if director Chris Columbus (Harry Potter, Home Alone) can pull off the balance of comedy and convincing thrills. While the below trailer doesn’t have us completely sold, we remain curious about its prospects. Check it out below along with a batch of posters.
When intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet.
