Considering the breadth of films in which exotic locations are often manufactured through green screen and CGI environments, at the very least, one has to appreciate Scott Cohen‘s narrative debut for its dedication to on-location shooting. Working as photographer and artist, his first feature Red Knot was shot during a 23-day expedition mostly off the cost of Antarctica, and partially Argentina.

Starring Mad Men‘s Vincent Kartheiser, Olivia Thirlby and Billy Campbell, the story follows the up and down relationship between a newly married couple as they embark on this voyage. The first trailer has now landed ahead of a release early next month and aside from showing the beautiful environment, it also reveals the intimate drama. Check out the trailer below and see much more about the production on the official site.

Red Knot follows Peter (Vincent Kartheiser, “Mad Men”) and Chloe (Olivia Thirlby, Juno), a newly married couple who jump at the chance to satisfy their wanderlust by taking a belated honeymoon aboard a research vessel bound for Antarctica. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Southern Ocean and the jagged coast of Antarctica, this modern exploration of love, isolation, and betrayal examines the poles within us and the ambivalence of love.
