After starring in two of the most iconic boxing movies in Hollywood history, Warner Bros. is teaming Rocky and Raging Bull themselves in Grudge Match. Even including a nod or two to those original films, Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone will face off in this December’s Grudge Match. Coming from Get Smart director Peter Segal, the first trailer has landed today.
Losing the stark aesthetic of Scorsese’s film and seemingly the spirit of Stallone’s classic, this one is clearly aiming to be an all-audience holiday hit, with a fair share of geriatric jokes thrown in. It’s not quite my cup of tea, but seeing these two together could be worth it, as they play boxing rivals who briefly depart retirement to have one final match, fifty years after their last bout.
