fahrenheit-451

Chalk it up to it not actually getting a theatrical release, but it seems like it wasn’t on the top of everyone’s radar that the great Ramin Bahrani (Chop Shop, 99 Homes, Man Push Cart, Goodbye Solo) had directed Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon in a new spin on the Ray Bradbury classic Fahrenheit 451. Now that HBO has released the first trailer–well-timed right after Jordan stole the show in Black Panther–ahead of a May release, we imagine it will ignite your interest.

Adapted from the 1953 Ray Bradbury novel, Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian saga about “firemen” who don’t put out fires, but rather start them by burning books, which are outlawed in the bleak but probably now not-too-distant version of America the characters inhabit. Jordan pays Guy Montag, a fireman who comes to lose faith in his profession once his eyes are opened to the outlawed printed word. Shannon is Captain Beatty, Montag’s mentor.

Also starring Lilly Singh, Sofia Boutella, and Laura Harrier, see the trailer below.

Fahrenheit 451 is based on Ray Bradbury’s classic novel. In a future where the media is an opiate, history is rewritten and “firemen” burn books, Jordan plays Guy Montag, a young fireman who struggles with his role as law enforcer and with his “mentor”, played by Shannon.

Fahrenheit 451 premiers on HBO in May.
