Released in 2011, Martha Marcy May Marlene was a stunning, dark character study and a powerful debut for director Sean Durkin. While he went on to help his Borderline Films trio on one of 2013’s best films, Simon Killer, the emerging director is also hard at work on another project and we’ve got the first  look today. We usually stray away from covering TV projects, but this about as worthy an exception as one can get, as the debut teaser for the upcoming four-part U.K. miniseries Southcliffe has landed.

Directed by Durkin and coming from Tony Grisoni (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), the story follows an English market town devastated by a spate of shootings which take place over a single day. Featuring a great ensemble including Eddie Marsan, Kaya Scodelario, Shirley Henderson, Rory Kinnear, Sean Harris and more, this looks to stand toe-to-toe with another great 2013 mini-series, Jane Campion‘s Top of the Lake. Check out the teaser below (via The Playlist) as we await news on the premiere and watch a 1.5-hour discussion with Durkin and his collaborators here.

Are you looking forward to Southcliffe from this teaser?
