The latest film from Korean director Kim Ki-duk got pretty lucky, to say the least. Premiering at Venice Film Festival earlier this month, Pieta went on to win the coveted top prize of Golden Lion — but not without some qualifiers. As we reported over the weekend there was a snafu with the Paul Thomas Anderson‘s The Master simply being awarded too many prizes and so Michael Mann‘s jury handed their best film award to this foreign drama instead.
So, with some added recognition the film is headed to Toronto and we’ve got a new trailer and a clip for the drama that follows a debt collector who happens upon a woman who says she’s his mother — and things get crazy from there on out. Complete with English subtitles, this trailer is a bit of an odd beast with its title inserts (Then she suddenly disappears!) and general tone. While I’ve only seen middling reviews thus far, perhaps it is one to eventually check out. See the trailer and clip below for the film starring Lee Jung-jin and Cho Min-soo.
Pieta premiered at Venice and is screening at TIFF.
