Tony Gilroy, the writer behind the excellent and successful Bourne trilogy has signed on for a fourth film, Universal has announced. Neither Matt Damon nor Paul Greengrass have signed on to return. Recently Damon has said he wouldn’t return unless Greengrass and the director has said he isn’t returning. I can only hope with Gilroy back they reconsider.

Even better, maybe Gilroy, who has directed Michael Clayton and Duplicity, would possibly direct. A source from The Wrap said the studio is going after Damon/Greengrass, but if they will move forward if they don’t agree.

It was also announced that Gilroy will write a “bible for the franchise. I can only assume it will plan out the path for future films. The Bourne trilogy has grossed almost $1 billion worldwide. I can’t wait to see another one, especially penned by Gilroy.

Universal wants to release The Bourne Legacy in 2012.

What do you think of another Bourne film? Who would you want to see direct?
