After diving deep into the modern western genre with his show Justified, Timothy Olyphant is set to appear in a feature film in a similar genre, but with a twist. While Richard Jenkins, Kurt Russell, Peter Sarsgaard and Jennifer Carpenter all signed on to Bone Tomahawk earlier this fall, Deadline now reports this new addition.

The directorial debut of S. Craig Zahler will has been called a “brutally violent, character-driven” horror-western which follows an old man, sheriff, cowboy and captured native who attempt to rescue kidnapped folks from “cannibalistic troglodytes.” Olyphant comes into play as John Brooder, described as “an eloquent sharpshooter who moved to the frontier in order to satisfy the dark impulses that lie beneath his polished exterior.” It sounds like a perfect fit for the actor, who also showed off his horror chops in the overlooked remake of The Crazies, and the idea of him taking on cannibals alongside Jenkins, Russell and Sarsgaard has us clamoring to see the results.

Production kicks off this spring in New Mexico.
