Much has been heard from director Kevin Smith regarding his next project, a hockey film based on a song by Warren Zevon called Hit Somebody. Unlike his upcoming Cop Out, Smith is writing this one. A few new updates about the project have come through via Smith’s twitter. First, on January 24h he stated:

13 years ago today, CHASING AMY had its world premiere @ Sundance97. Been trying to make as good a flick ever since. That’ll be HIT SOMEBODY

The next (and more important) tweet regarding Smith’s passion project came on January 26th:

Hey @MitchAlbom! Headed to WB for official HIT SOMEBODY pitch! Roll by the Joe & give it a rub for good luck. Big Thx. The Cup Run begins…

This is great news. I will be very surprised if Warner Bros. doesn’t pick it up considering the internal fan base that sports movies have by default. Nothing else about the project is known at this time. I would bet a good amount that the future of Hit Somebody at Warner Bros. will rest very heavily on the success of  Cop Out which hits theaters at the end of this month.

What are your thoughts on Hit Somebody?
