If the formula works, why break it? After helping Liam Neeson find newfound action stardom with Taken, director Pierre Morel is hoping to do the same for Sean Penn. The Gunman puts more than a few firearms in the hands of the actor in, surprisingly, his first action role thus far. Ahead of a spring release, the first trailer has now landed.
A politically-tinged work, based on a novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette and adapted by director Pete Travis (Dredd, Vantage Point), revolves around Martin Terrier (Penn), a hitman whose plans to get out of the game with his true love (Jasmine Trinca) go awry when his company prove traitorous. Soon, a Europe-spanning journey of bloody deaths begins. Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Javier Bardem, Idris Elba and Ray Winstone.
Update: See a new U.K. trailer below.
The Gunman opens on March 20th.
