In an exclusive interview with The Independent, Ridley Scott revealed details about his upcoming Alien prequels.
Scott promises two prequels, both shot in 3D, which will explore the origins of the Alien race. The first film, which got a script polish from Lost co-creator Damon Lindoff, will be set 30 years prior to Alien. So don’t anticipate a Sigourney Weaver cameo. Instead, Scott assures:
“The film will be really tough, really nasty…It’s the dark side of the moon. We are talking about gods and engineers. Engineers of space. And were the aliens designed as a form of biological warfare? Or biology that would go in and clean up a planet?”
Scott, seemingly irritated that he wasn’t invited back for the sequel of the franchise he spawned (Aliens was given to James Cameron, fresh off of The Terminator) declares, “Jim’s raised the bar and I’ve got to jump to it…He’s not going to get away with it.”
The Independent suggests it’s a risk for Scott to revisit a franchise he hasn’t worked on in 30 years, but sci-fi has always been good to Scott. Plus, he’s built his reputation on tent pole productions and risky endeavors.
True to form, Scott has a number of daring adaptations in development, including the comic-book based Nemesis, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea based on the Jules Verne classic, Brave New World based on the Aldous Huxley novel, the Gucci biopic, and lastly a movie based on the board game Monopoly.
Do you think Scott can bring life back to Aliens?
