Vulgar auteurists, rejoice: Paul W.S. Anderson will release not one, but two films in 2014, his fourth Resident Evil picture (and the series’ sixth installment) preceded by an early-in-the-year opening for the ancient disaster picture Pompeii. As one who’s never counted themselves a fan of the director — the existing curiosity about some of his (in certain circles) more-praised work notwithstanding — the preview at hand does little for yours truly, be it the CG flame action or visual stylings which, from the outset, too explicitly recall the likes of 300 or Immortals. (It doesn’t help that we’re getting an unappealing follow-up to the former only weeks later.)
But those who love the director’s comically absurd stylings should have more to look forward to — I just don’t know what, exactly, that may entail. Could I, a non-convert, get more out of this new encounter? It would be a pleasure.
Have a glimpse below (via Yahoo!):
Starring Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones), Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), Kiefer Sutherland, Carrie Anne-Moss, Jared Harris, and Paz Vega, Pompeii will open on February 21, 2014.
