This entire time I thought this was a joke. Casey Affleck, budding actor who usurped his brother as the true talent of the family with phenomenal performances in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Gone Baby Gone got behind the camera for a documentary. The subject was Joaquin Phoenix and his slow (possibly fake) descent into insanity. Now the L.A. Times [via ThePlaylist] is reporting that Magnolia Pictures is in negotiations to buy the documentary.

The film, entitled I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix has been screening for buyers and has finally found one. No one is really sure if the film is real or fake, but it documents Phoenix doing cocaine, rapping and other nefarious things. And anyone who has seen him in public can see the bearded man is either not altogether there or putting forth an epic performance.

Regardless, we’ll get to judge for ourselves apparently. Magnolia is seeking a fall release for the film.

Is this real or fake? I’d definitely see it; will you?
