While the Marvel films thus far have more or less been cookie-cutter molds of what’d you expect, a few upcoming films in their universe are looking to change that. James Gunn recently wrapped production on the wild-looking Guardians of the Galaxy and as he enters post, all eyes are on Edgar Wright to give us the unexpected in Ant-Man.
Rumors have been running rampant, but now Variety tell us that two top contenders are Joseph Gordon Levitt and Paul Rudd, with a possible third being kept under wraps. Set for a release July 31st, 2015, we’d love to see someone outside-the-box like Rudd take it, but let’s just hope such a choice doesn’t mean this one is the next Green Hornet.
Continuing in the blockbuster realm, Dwayne Johnson has found his next leading role and it’s his largest opponent yet. Variety lets us know that the actor will reteam with his Journey director Brad Peyton for San Andreas, which follows Johnson’s journey across California after a massive earthquake strikes, in order to save his daughter. Production is aiming to kick off early next year for a likely 2015 release and perhaps some sequels down the line.
In other casting news, bouncing back after the bomb Playing for Keeps, director Gabriele Muccino (Seven Pounds) will be returning to dramatic territory for Fathers and Daughters. According to Variety, Russell Crowe has been set in the lead role for the Blacklist script by Brad Desch, which follows our titular characters, who are 25 years apart. Crowe has been set in the role of a “famous novelist and widower struggling with mental illness as he tries to raise his 5-year-old daughter. Yet to be cast is the 30-year-old daughter, who we follow in Manhattan as she “battles the aftermath of her troubled childhood.”
Who would you like to see play Ant-Man? Which of the above projects are you most looking forward to?
