The veteran filmmaker is quite literally digging back into his roots lately. First a Wall Street sequel, now this. Drug cartels and romance. Remind you of any other particular Stone film/s of the past?

Nope, me neither.

Stone is currently closing a deal to direct Savages, based on the novel by Don Winslow:

…two pals from Laguna Beach pals share the same girlfriend and a thriving business growing and distributing the best-quality pot on the planet. When they resist being muscled by a Mexican drug cartel , the girl is kidnapped and the ransom is every cent they’ve made for the last five years.  They agree to pay but hatch an alternate plan to get her back, get revenge, and then get lost. [Deadline Hollywood]

Drugs, Friendship, Love, Revenge! Sounds like…an Oliver Stone film. The director’s apparently putting up his own money (as he often does with his passion projects) to get it made.

It doesn’t sound like anything groundbreaking, but assuming Wall Street 2 is as promising as it’s marketing campaign suggests it is, maybe this Stone at the tippy-top of his game again, literally doing what he did best.

Do you like Oliver Stone as a director? Is he overrated?
