Although he hasn’t directed a film since 2006’s Art School Confidential, director Terry Zwigoff has major plans to return behind the camera, developing multiple projects. We got word just a few weeks ago he was working on a feature comedy for Saturday Night Live star Fred Armisen and now another film and cropped up, with a star already attached.
According to The Wrap, the Bad Santa and Ghost World director has his eyes on an independent film titled Lost Melody and Nicolas Cage is in talks to lead. The actor would be playing a man in a crumbling marriage, who falls for a prostitute. Co-written with Melissa Axelrod, the film will be produced by American Psycho and The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans producer Edward R. Pressman.
While Cage has his fair share of poor projects (perhaps due to the sheer number he leads), when matched with an accomplished director, he can certainly excel. We’ve been waiting for Zwigoff’s return and this combination is promising, as producers liken the dark drama to films like The Blue Angel and Sunset Boulevard. Cage will next be seen in David Gordon Green‘s Joe and one can check back for updates on Zwigoff’s next feature.
Do you think Cage and Zwigoff are a strong combo?
