mad-max-fury

There were more than a handful of excellent films this summer, but if you were looking for some big-budget spectacle, then you certainly came up empty-handed. While not every summer can have an blockbuster as relentlessly visionary and bold as George Miller‘s Mad Max: Fury Road, we were hoping at least one had a single memorable action scene. Alas, we’ll have to turn to a newly edited video showing just how reliant Miller was on practical effects in his latest film.

Titled “Crash & Smash,” the four-minute video compiles behind-the-scenes footage, pre-production tests, and raw footage without a single ounce of CGI to show staggering the stunts were. With no shortage of flailing bodies and I-can’t-believe-no-one-died explosions, if anything, it’ll have you wishing George Miller rejuvenated X Games with his own flavor of theatrics.

Check out the video below, along with another one which cuts some actual footage of the movie in between as a comparison, then finally a video that breaks down the special effects that were used.
