Accomplishing the rare feat of proving both the vampire genre and the mockumentary style is alive and well, we recently named Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement‘s What We Do in the Shadows one of the best comedies of the decade. While there’s been much talk that they are planning to return to the world with a sequel brilliantly titled We’re Wolves, considering that one-half of the duo is booked up for the near future directing Marvel’s Thor: Ragnorak, we thought it many be many years before we revisit any of these characters. Thankfully, it looks like it’ll be much sooner.
Radio New Zealand announced this morning that a TV series spin-offs has been funded to the tune of $1.4 million for Paranormal Event Response Unit. Coming from the minds of Clement and Waititi, the six-episode series will focus on Karen and Mike (portrayed by Karen O’Leary and Mike Minogue in the film), the pair of police officers who investigate the house occupied by our new favorite vampires. This new show, to air on TVNZ 2, will follow them as they “keep us safe from supernatural phenomena in their own police reality series.”
Considering how What We Do in the Shadows more or less acted as the best version of Real World possible, we imagine the medium of TV will be an ideal fit to continue the adventures, hopefully with a few cameos. As we wait for more information, check out Waititi’s mockumentary take in the world of Marvel below.
