One only needs to take a quick glance at this year’s tentpole line-up to see that sci-fi is the name of the game, but sadly the genre’s large-scale offerings left much to be desired. Considering smaller fare like The World’s End and Europa Report impressed us most, a new acquisition from MGM has us intrigued.
Mixing sci-fi with horror elements, the studio has picked up the rights to Rob McLellan‘s Abe, an eight-minute short that follows a robot serial killer as he explains to his latest victim why he does what he does. MGM plans to turn it into a feature film, with the original helmer coming back to write and direct according to Deadline, but there’s no telling what the plot will be. McLellan clearly has a technical grasp, so hopefully he can make a feature version compelling. Check out the short below.
What do you think of the short? Where should a feature film version go?
