How fitting that the “musician” who gets covered with the most devotion around these here parts would be David Lynch. The beloved filmmaker, author, and occasional TV pioneer has been expelling much of his energy into music nowadays — or making himself most publicly known there; other things are happening — most notably in 2011’s fascinating Crazy Clown Time, most recently with next month’s The Big Dream. We had provided you with its bonus track — the dreamy, ethereal, Julee Cruise-esque “I’m Waiting Here” — just last week; today, a video has been thrown onto the internet for your personal consumption.
But — unlike the title track of his last outing — this is not directed by Lynch himself. According to PrettyMuchAmazing, what follows is the design of his co-singer, Lykke Li, and artist Daniel Desure, who nonetheless pay homage to Lynch‘s atmosphere, by the end making a direct visual callback to the opening credits of Lost Highway (sans Outside-era Bowie). Simple though this may be, it’s fine treatment for a chilly little track.
Have a watch for yourself:
The Big Dream will be released on July 16.
Any thoughts on the video, track, and Lynch’s newfound passion?
