While many fall films have (or will be) been unveiled on the fall festival circuit, we’ve still got a few major awards contenders still locked up. Aside from Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty, Tom Hooper‘s return after his Oscar sweep with The King’s Speech is high among the most-anticipated. We got a little teaser for his take on Les Miserables, but now an extended four-minute featurette has rolled in.

Exploring the process of capturing live performances on set, this look is filled with new footage and points at what could be a stellar musical, a genre seemingly fading away nowadays. Leave it to Hooper to inject some life into it as he goes through the groundbreaking process with actors such as Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne and more. Check it out below.

Synopsis:

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

Les Miserables arrives on December 25th, 2012.
