Another 1980’s horror classic is making its way to the big screen, as Roger Hall‘s Dry Country Entertainment is acquiring the rights to Jim Wynorski‘s 1986 film Chopping Mall. According to Variety, Hall and his producing partner Kevin Bocarde will produce and write the adaptation, with Hall also signed on as director.

The original version of Chopping Mall was produced by Hollywood vet producer Roger Corman and his wife, which followed a group of teenagers who become trapped inside a mall, where they are attacked by killer robots.

Bocarde has been quoted as saying the following about the remake:

“It will retain the basic concept of young people trapped in a mall; however, the story will have a darker, supernatural spin.”

There have been various adaptations of Corman‘s works over the years which include, 2008’s Death Race starring Jason Statham and last year’s Piranha 3D. Although horror remakes generally aren’t as good as their originals, e.g., Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, Hall and Bocarde do seem pretty enthusiastic about the project and paying homage to its producer. Production on the new Chopping Mall will begin sometime in the spring and if you want further insight into the world of Corman, check out his new documentary (our review & trailer ).
