I can already imagine “It’s never too late to find yourself” showing up as the tagline on the poster; Variety reports that Strange Weather Films is developing Year Abroad, a travel drama-comedy from writer Chris McCoy. The movie will follow a 30-something male who, after getting dumped, decides to follow through on a dream he had when he was 18 and trek across Europe. While there he gets taken under the wing of an eccentric Brit who spends his time traveling to strange places.
McCoy developed the idea with Jeff Fierson who is also executive-producing the effort. McCoy’s other work has shown up on the much-publicized “Black List” and in addition to selling a romantic comedy pitch to Disney he recently completed a rewrite of the upcoming superhero movie Guardians of the Galaxy for the studio. Specifics on Year Abroad (cast, release dates, etc.) do not exist quite yet but we’ll update when they arrive.
Although I joked about a possible hokey tagline for Year Abroad, I have to admit it’s the sort of “personal journey” nonsense that I eat up, so in all likelihood I’ll likely be highly anticipating this one.
Any thoughts about Year Abroad? Do you normally take to “personal journey” movies?
