We expected this might be coming, and here’s some confirmation. Deadline is reporting that the X-Men and X-Men 2 helmer is officially on board to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past, a sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s moderately successful X-Men: First Class.
Vaughn is still on as producer, along with Lauren Schuler Donner and franchise writer Simon Kinberg. The primary cast of the original film – a prequel to the series as a whole – is returning to the sequel, and the script (credited to Vaughn, Kinberg and Jane Goldman) is also finished and ready to go.
Fox has set X-Men: Days of Future Past to drop on July 18, 2014.
