With 2013 fast approaching, its time to take a look at new art from a few animated features set to arrive in theaters. First up, the powerhouse Disney is aiming for two major releases next year; one being Pixar’s prequel Monsters University. We’ve got new images of Sulley and Mike (above, near when they first meet at a frat party), then the latter on his way to a class. It’s difficult to drum up much excitement for a prequel like this, but hopefully Pixar improves after the disappointing Brave and shockingly bad Cars 2.
Then we’ve got the first concept art from Disney’s Frozen. With voice work from Kristen Bell, the film is set in a kingdom that never leaves the winter season thanks to a spell set by a Queen. It’s up to our lead character Anna, along with the mountain man Kristoff and his sidekick reindeer Sven to break the curse. It’s a nice first look, but hardly much to go on until we see a trailer.
Lastly, but certainly not least, we’ve got two posters for next year’s Studio Ghibli films. We reported on the films last month, revealing one is Hayao Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises, which focuses on Jiro Horikoshi, designer of the fighter planes responsible for carrying out attacks on Pearl Harbor. We’ve also got the first poster from the next film by Grave of the Fireflies director Isao Takahata, titled The Tale Of The Bamboo Cutter, making for two of our most-anticipated films of next year. Check out all the new images and posters below thanks to EW/Bleeding Cool.
Monsters University lands in June, while Frozen arrives in November and both Studio Ghibli are expected to hit theaters sometime in 2013.
