If Chevy Chase has proved anything these last few years, it’s that he pretty much only does whatever he wants. After exiting Community due to long hours, clashes with the creative team and presumably more, he’s got nothing but some free time on his hands, so what better than cashing it in for a big payday? According to Variety, he’ll be taking another Vacation with New Line’s upcoming reboot.
From John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the minds that brought you surprisingly funny Horrible Bosses and the not-so-surprisingly mediocre Incredible Burt Wonderstone, they’ve penned the film and will be jumping behind the cameras for the first time to direct. Chase is on board as Clark Griswold, along with wife Ellen Griswold (Beverly D’Angelo), and they’re joined by Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, and whichever teenagers get cast as the youngest Griswolds.
We can expect their appearance to be a short one, as the film follows Rusty (Helms) on his own family roadtrip, with plans to stop by his mother and father’s house. This should clear up any rumors coming from Chase that he wasn’t interested in signing on, rather planning his own separate sequel for the franchise. It looks like those plans are scrapped and he’ll be sticking by the studio’s guidelines for this one.
Do you have hope that this reboot will be a worthy return to the Vacation franchise?
