Following the Producer’s Guild of America announcement this morning, the Art Directors Guild have announced their nominations for best Production design this year. An overlooked category, this is an area that can make or break a film for me. The lack of effort in War Horse‘s production design hurt the film for me, whereas the impeccable detail in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy elevates it to another level.

The latter was recognized, along with the much-deserving Captain America: The First Avenger and Spielberg’s other 2011 film The Adventure of Tintin, both in the fantasy categories. Also showing up was Cowboys & Aliens, whose production design is one of the only deserving elements to recognize. It was no surprise to see Drive and The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo show up in the contemporary category with their immaculate design, with Bridesmaids getting an outside nom. Check out all the film nominations below.
