Broken Lizard Looking To Make ‘Super Troopers’ Sequel This Year

Written by on February 28, 2013

Hide the maple syrup – it looks like the members of Broken Lizard are dusting off their old uniforms. In 2001, the comedy troupe premiered its break out hit Super Troopers, an absurd raunchfest about a group of Vermont police officers. Since then the group has produced a number of equally perverse and goofy films, including the latest addition, Freeloader, but rumors of a Super Troopers sequel remained unfulfilled – until now, that is.

Financing was secured for Super Troopers 2 back in 2009, but last year, details on a final script and shooting date were still uncertain. However, statements from Broken Lizard member Kevin Heffernan are edging the project to closer to an actual production date – in a recent interview, Heffernan confirmed that the sequel could finally get underway this year, saying:

“There will be a Super Troopers sequel. We put it off for a while and then came back to it. We wrote the script and handed it in to Fox and now we’re just negotiating the time and the place and hopefully shoot it sometime this year. I have to start growing my mustache now.”

Though “sometime this year” is pretty vague, it’s better than fellow member Jay Chandrasekhar’s date of “eventually.” Either way, I’m sure fans are glad to hear that Heffernan, Chandrasekhar, and the rest of the Broken Lizard gang – Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske –are returning to their bad boy shenanigans. Does this news make the sequel seem more or less imminent?
