For whatever reason — past the obvious, “money,” along with, I suspect, soon-to-expire rights — Paramount and Annapurna are gearing up Terminator 5 at a quick clip. Less than five months after the hiring of scribes Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) and Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island), it’s sounding more and more like a real deal: speaking to fansite (duh) TheArnoldFans, Arnold Schwarzenegger made some mighty declarative statements about the franchise’s near-future, in his statement signaling an impending movement that’s been some time coming.
His quote is as follows:
“In fact, I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star AS the Terminator, which we start shooting in January and I’m also going to do King Conan – to play that role and also to do another Twins movie. So I feel very proud of that. I feel very happy and I’m looking forward to doing those films.”
Realistically, seven months is an attainable point for the production; in being sure to have a complete script done by then, it could be said to have a headstart on most major movies upon first rolling cameras. Now, of course, you have to find a director, a search which, as with the series’ prior two installments, is very likely to end with a journeyman nudged along by Schwarzenegger and producers. Would it be so unfortunate to have him back as a Terminator, though? If nothing else, I’ll be fascinated to see them explain the advanced age of a robot.
Does the prospect of Terminator 5 hold any appeal?
