“I grew up with the Spielberg movies that hit this holy grail sweet spot of cinema which is the spectacle and epic imagery but you also got the emotion and you care about the characters,” director Gareth Edwards recently told us when it comes to his upcoming Godzilla. “I really wanted to tap into that style of filmmaking. You have the visuals but there’s also some heart to it. It’s not some throwaway popcorn movie.”
We can see this notion come through in the recent trailer for his tentpole, but now even more footage has landed for his monster movie, courtesy of a U.K. version. While it follows the same structure as our last look, new bits are spliced in, including our first glimpse at Sally Hawkins‘ character, seemingly a flashback of Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, as well as our massive creature. Check it out below, along with new stills coming from Total Film, and let us know what you think in the comments below.
Godzilla opens on May 16th.
