Earlier this year we saw the teaser trailer for Sion Sono’s latest crime drama, Shinjuku Swan, based off a manga of the same name by creator Ken Watui. Ahead of a release in Japan in late May, the full trailer for the film has now arrived. While the teaser packed a great deal of absurdity and randomness, the full-length trailer, while still maintaining a level of craziness, shows off a lot more of the story. While no subtitles are readily available, if viewed on YouTube, one can adjust the setting to view translated captions.
One of Sono’s many forthcoming films (he has plans to release six films in Japan alone this year), this one stars Erika Sawajiri, Yusuke Iseya, Go Ayano, and TakayukI Yamada. Also, if you are a fan of Japanese tokusatsu you might recognize Yuki Kubota (Kamen Rider Gaim) from the trailer, as well. The crime drama follows Tatsuhiko Shiratori, a jobless young man who meets a scout who recruits women into the red-light district of Shinjuku, Tokyo. Before he knows it, Tatsuhiko is working in the crazy world of recruiting himself. Thanks to Cine Maldito, check out the trailer and poster below.
Shinjuku Swan hits theaters on May 30th in Japan.
